Lágrimas y Milagros (Album 2024)
Battosai
Alternative rock, Punk rock, Emo, Grunge
Three years have gone by since their homonym debut album. Straight out of Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, the northwest region of Spain, Battosai released their sophomore album “Lágrimas y Milagros” (Tears and Miracles) on October 31st, together with Spinda Records, the Spaniard independent label that has shown an excellent eye, or better said, excellent ear when signing emerging bands.
With a clear influence from punk rock and emo of the early 2000s, Battosai refuses to label their sound as either one or the other and brings not only that but also a diverse spectrum of so-called alternative rock. But don’t let yourself be fooled by the broad and grey labeling. Battosai stands by itself with its unique sound that has evidently matured into its own style.
On September 6th, the Galicians released the first single “Estrellas” (Stars) with its atmospheric guitars in the end, hinting at a more mature and established sound. Next came the single “Milagro” (Miracle) on September 9th, a bit of a call back to the grunge sound that characterized their album debut, yet with an evolved conjunction of the three musicians. Lastly, before the release of the full album, “Nunca es sufficient” (It’s never enough) put the first two singles together with this punk-rock-emo tune that set clear the current mood and sound of the band.
My highlights of the album would be the song “Fe” (Faith) as I felt empowered by its grunge vibes that reminded me of the 90’s own HUM. Also, I found more than appealing the way the album starts and closes, “Sálvame” (Save me) with its intro guitars leading to the screaming – Creo que tengo suficiente por saber que vuelvo a equivocarme. ¡Llévame hasta donde estés!– is a great way to tease the intensity and power of what is about to come. Only to close it all with “Polvo y Arena” (Dust and Sand), an absolute tear-apart anthem.
Stay tuned to State of Guitars as we are about to publish an interview we had with Héctor Ojea, voice and guitar of Battosai.
