Fireworks X Climate Protection

Coldplay, Maggie Rogers, Oska

„Music Of The Spheres“ presented by Live Nation & Leutgeb, Ernst-Happel-Stadion Wien, Austria 20240821

At Ernst-Happel-Stadion, where e.g. RHCP or Bruce Springsteen performed a year ago, the second big British Rock act starts its series of four concerts exactly one week after Placebo played their Arena Open Air. The tickets are valid for public transport and queueing goes fast. Everyone gets a blinking wristband and ‚moon goggles‘.

Local support OSKA started out busking and now was chosen by the main act. Between „Distant Universe“ and „Like a Song“, she tells that she could cry. While she is on the (acoustic) guitar, her band features Marie Shirin Schweiger (Leyya) and Doppelfinger. The day after, she will tell on radio fm4 that she was very nervous, but the soundcheck went so well and so she could calm down. And soon she will be out on Forever Blue Tour.

During the breaks, the party is on the kinetic energy floor. Then Maggie Rogers follows with a strong band and songs like „Light On“, that was part of the soundtrack in „The Idea of You“. But not only kinetic devices are planned to save to planet, so advertisements for The Ocean Cleanup and Project Seagrass are shown.

Two fans enter the stage and announce Coldplay. With so many hits they have, they will even leave out „Green Eyes“, „In My Place“ and „Speed Of Sound“. But already the first few songs include „Higher Power“, „Paradise“ with a „Classico“ singalong and especially „The Scientist“, when Chris Martin has few words in German to say.

For „Viva la Vida“, they get on the stage in the middle. They welcome all countries including Israel and Palestine and because the Taylor Swift shows the week before had to be cancelled due to terror attack warnings, they cover „Love Story“ with Maggie Rogers and two Swifties on stage.

More older highlights are „Yellow“ and „Clocks“. The musicians of BTS are on the screens during „My Universe“, and for „A Sky Full of Stars“, they ask the audience to put away the mobiles. This works and the mood is good in general, as it is a show for love and peace, that has to end somewhen as well with „Fix You“ and two songs from the upcoming new album „Moon Music“.
