I’m gon’ hit your business if it’s momentary blissness

Fontaines D.C., Blondshell, Culk

ROMANCE EUROPEAN TOUR 2024 presented by GOODLIVE ARTISTS, Arena Wien – Open Air, Austria 20240813

A hot evening in Vienna, and what else can you do to get the best of it than a concert at Arena Open Air? Opening the night were the locals Culk presenting their latest album “Generation Maximum” which at moments reminded me of NY noise rock of the 80’s. A dark and hypnotic sound that embraces the audience.

Following we got the Los Angeles indie rock of Sabrina Mae, better known as Blondshell, playing a roller coaster of emotions setlist, between energetic songs like the recently released single “Docket”, the more melodic/romantic “Kiss City” from her homonymous album, until closing the set with “Veronica Mars”.

The Irish Fontaines D.C. start the night with a new song, “Romance” named after their upcoming album (August 23rd), a mysterious song that serves as an intro and opens the door for a night full of their distinctive energy. Immediately after, the well-known “Jackie Down The Line” bursts the flame, followed by a setlist that jumped across their discography. “Televised Mind”, “Roman Holiday” and “Big Shot” gave a chance to recover the breath from the starting banger. Afterward, “Death Kink” is another new song that mixes smoothly with past songs while presenting a more mature sound for the band.

After a short encore, the Dubliners came back on stage with a perfect song sandwich of new songs “In the Modern World” and “Starburster” wrapping the classic “I Love You”.

Overall, the setlist introduces “Romance” which would be the 4th studio album of the band. New and exciting songs that blend in with all-time classics without going unnoticed.
