Pendant (Album 2024)

Myriad’s Veil

Psychedelic Folk

Only about one year ago, Ismena released her debut of Dark Indie Folk. Meanwhile Psych-Rockers Temple Fang continued their acclaimed festival appearances like at Freak Valley or Sonic Blast and visited Vienna for a Roadtrip To Outta Space. So what happens if the guitarist Ivy van der Veer and singer-songwriter Ismena get married?

Exactly, they combine their skills and create Myriad’s Veil. In eight songs they show on their first full-length „Pendant“, how their dreamy and progressive roots go hand in hand. The album cover by Maaike Ronhaar displays the two protagonists in a fairytale-like broadleaved forest between veils, like on the single artworks of „The Darkness“ and „Hollow“ behind glass.

Dissonant like Black Peaks and soft guitar notes grow on dynamic synth floors, carrying the vocals. Fragile structures woven to a warming blanket. Beautiful refrains light the way in the woods, rising like „Hollow“ (Godsmack) or „Roads“ (Roadrunner United) in „All I Have Said“ or „When The Leaves Start Falling“.

The lyrics talk of love and happiness as well as of estrangement and disorientation. „Waste“ with its thrilling atmosphere gives a taste of Morricone, Bowie and Soap&Skin. Then in „The Spring“, strumming chords come in like Eels or Carus Thompson, letting the snow melt, the sun shine and the cold go.

Without being intrusive, Myriad’s Veil array their listeners in their music. Mild like Black Cherry Marble or Dream Noir, the spectrum of feelings is wide. Between Alt-Rock and pure Psychedelic, from Blind Melon, The Black Hollies, Magnolian Moods to Spirogyra and Sam Gopal, the range is open.

So the duo is as mysterious as the typography of their logo: kind of progressive and with a dark sweep. Like a forest can feel home but a little scary when the fog obscures any sight. But in the end, Myriad’s Veil will guide you on the path.
