White Lies, Like Elephants

Spring is getting slowly closer yet the wind is whistling stronger. At Vienna’s Gürtel, Glut play at rhiz and Freischwimma at Carina. And another band, which presented its EP there, this time gets on stage a little bit West at Ottakringer Brauerei at a show presented by FM4 Indiekiste. 

Almost one year ago, Like Elephants entered Kramladen with their new record „The.Grey.One“ accompanied by Lightts. At Ottakringer’s Hefeboden, they put their spell on an already pretty crowded room with dreamlike songs like „Forest“. With that power and reputation, they are not only opener of this night but of six shows in total of this headliner tour. 

Main act is no one less than White Lies. Starting in the late 2010s, they have a loyal fanbase in love with 80s Indie Alternative Post Punk Rock similar to likes of Joy Division, Depeche Mode, Placebo, Muse, Franz Ferdinand, Talking Heads, Interpol, Editors, The Killers or Future Islands. 

So they toured with dEUS, Snow Patrol and Coldplay and played festivals like Roskilde or Reading and sold out shows in Mexico. With seven albums until now, they like to ‚play some of our favorite songs and hopefully yours too‘. Beginning with „All the Best“ from the latest „Night Light“, the first banger follows with „Farewell to the Fairground“. 

Another new one is „My Lover“ before celebrating ten years of „Friends“ with „Don’t Want to Feel It All“. The Hefeboden is packed to the hallway with too many people, moving as far as possible if even and singing with hits like „Tokyo“. Many more follow with „Big TV“ or the personal highlight „To Lose My Life“: ‚Let’s grow old together and die at the same time‘. 

„Bigger Than Us“ will keep ringing in the ear afterwards and „Death“ is White Lies’ monument. And as the shadows are dancing at the wall and solos piercing through one’s soul, FM4 Indiekiste holds the next names like Biffy Clyro, Florence and The Machine or The Kooks, while soon the Vinyl & Music Festival will be held at Ottakringer Brauerei again with bands like Cadû.
