V (Album 2024)
Kerbmaldarr
Sludge Stoner Metal
Winter is coming. Slowly but inexoralbe. Like the band, that wants to ‚never stop evolving, never stop having fun‘. After „Goat In A Coat“ and the demo „Einstöck Sessions“, they chose the most spooky holiday of the year for the release of their debut album „V“.
Saint Vitus and Spidergawd selected this title before. For Kerbmaldarr, the ‚V‘ stand for five years of existence and five bandmembers. The artwork by Bernd Grünwald (Eclipse New Media) shows the letter on white ground, like a cut-out, where it suggests a graffiti wall behind it.
For the live release, they return to the eighteenth edition of Doom Over Vienna. They were part of the festival before, held at Escape Metalcorner, where they played with Ahab and Arctic Sea Survivors last time. The six instrumental progressive tunes from the album, they will partly present with vocals.
„Viking“ pulls it off immediately and takes no prisoners. Heavily rock’n’rolling, it reminds of similar acts like Oddplay or Luíz Maldonalle, with a certain Heavy Metal appeal as well of even Iron Maiden if you want to hear it out. Screaming guitars and fine percussions add the wild Stoner flavour like Red Sun Atacama or Red Fang.
Like this, Kerbmaldarr shift through the possibilities of guitar sound evolution, hanging in some Sludge, accompanied by slams of the bass drum. Returning to classic melodies, Mothers Of The Land are right there. The heart of the record is „Cut Loose“, with especially catchy riffs like Audrey Horne.
In „Vinter“, they turn the mood way darker, even Post Metallic like Anderwelt or Harakiri For The Sky. But in the end, they wave goodbye with a lot of charm, like a combination of Seether, Henrik Huber and Dark Age, not too fast, so the seperation is pleasurable. And for lovers of physical copies, vinyls and CDs by Media Care will be available of Kerbmaldarr’s „V“.
