Night of Crackling Heads
CroworD, Raging Void, Divinity Prototype, Deathtale, Arcane Veil, Sivet
Death Over The Night #5 presented by Metalnight Outbreak at ((szene)) Wien, Austria 20260328
End of March and the night of the clock change. Coming from the loud Simmeringer Hauptstraße, the ((szene)) is situated in the peaceful Hauffgasse. Yet there’s a lot of noise about to break lose, as there’s Death Over The Night #5.
The Fresh Start
Earlier editions featured names like Darkest Moral or Zerleger. Tonight offers a mighty-fine mix of Extreme Metal, starting with Sivet – Alternative Metal from Lower Austria. They are young, they are fresh, they are modern with a Post Hardcore vibe like With Broken Wings coming to the screams. The singer jumps like a maniac similar to Chester Bennington (R.I.P.), gets his beer delivered to the stage and announces their ‚good friends‘ Arcane Veil.
The Modern Death Metal outfit has opened for Brujería and performed at Escape lately with their latest album „Sands Of Time“. They have their banners with them and play as trio tonight. Their melodies are captivating, as the singer moves like a predator. Kids with ‚Mickey Mouse‘ ear protectors are at the front, as the set goes on quickly, because there are six bands in total.
Experienced Groove and Darkness
‚We’ve been around for a while‘, Thrashers Deathtale can announce proudly with a history going back to 2008, three albums and support for likes of Flotsam&Jetsam or Pyrexia. So they have the „Suffering Rain“ „Before Blood Flows“ and with a lot of strong Groove, they „Unleash The Wolves“.
Divinity Prototype are responsible for the darkest moment of the night with their Poisonous Industrial Black Metal. Experienced in projects like KaaK or Nebulum, they enter with corpsepaint, proclaiming „The Last World War“. In this atmosphere with barely any colours, the only gleam of hope is the „Light of Pernicious Star“.
Neckbreaking Finals
Shirts are available at the merchandise table, while Raging Void increase the speed again like at STP Metalweekend. They have a song premiere, presenting „The Demons March“ for the first time live. As they want to play a slower one, someone screams ‚no!‘, while another one answers ‚yes!‘ and „Degenerator“ – the EP title track – follows.
Sixth and last band of the night is CroworD. They were part of the Metal Escalation and can be called ((szene)) regulars. As an enthusiastic audience member asks for the drummer’s name very early, they introduce the whole band. From their latest „The Ignorance Cut“ (available on CD and vinyl), they perform „The Obscure, Known to Everyone“ and the final one, claiming ‚don’t drink and drive‘.
Their debut EP „Manifest of Mortal Sickness“ turns ten this year, as more bangers like „The Devil’s Truth“ or „The Longest Fall“ follow. It is a beautiful closing of a heavy headbanging night. CroworD will support The Duskfall on 9th April, while ((szene)) will host more theme nights like Vienna Core Fest, Into The Dark Chapter 2, Punx & Skins United Again or Night Of Symphonic Power.
