Durbuy Rock Festival 26th Edition – Announcement
Bomal-sur-Ourthe, Belgium 20230512-13
Stone cold woods and a clouded sky. A scenery that just feels like the right place where metalheads belong. Images from the quarter century anniversary of a Belgian festival institution. The big ones like Hellfest, Wacken, Full Force and Metaldays flourish. But smaller ones as well, like Gothoom or Pitfest, but not many can look back on a history like this.
The timeline of the Durbuy Rock Festival in the village Bomal-sur-Ourthe basically features most big, exclusive and rare acts of (Extreme) Metal. From Peter Pan Speedrock to Orange Goblin, Delain to Enslaved, Entombed to Samael, the list is extensive. And for the 26th edition, many return, what is a good sign. Because apart from beautiful images of the old town of the smallest city in the world, the region seems to be made for this event.
Who is looking for an accommodation better be quick. Even though there are several possibilities of all kind, many are already taken at the beginning of the year. There is a public camping site nearby and the organizers offer spots as well. And it is right next to the train station, so the arrival is as comfortable as possible. On one outdoor and one indoor stage, the bands of the great line up are alternating.
So Friday in the late afternoon, the first national bands open the festival. The core of the evening consists of five sonorous names: Rise Of The Northstar will move the Rap Metalheads. Bloodbath featuring Nick Holmes ring in the sinister time, continued by Rotting Christ. Korpiklaani will start the dance, and Suffocation will turn it to the Death Metal pit.
On Saturday, the first bands beginning with Obsolete Humanity will start at noon. Apart from more local bands to check out, at a later hour, Brutus and Wolvennest might be known from Roadburn. With Mr. Holmes as singer again, Paradise Lost will take on the atmosphere, followed by Blackened Death demons Belphegor and as festival final Belgian treasure Amenra. Any more motivating factors needed?
