„Betty“ 30th Anniversary Tour presented by Mind Over Matter, ((szene)) Wien, Austria 20241202
While some already get in the mood for Christmas time, the Hard & Heavy community still likes to gather and enjoy their recurring heroes. And it is even possible to simply get a ticket via willhaben shortly before without being scammed.
Again, Mind Over Matter Music stands behind the show of Helmet at ((szene)) like during the Look Left Tour 2023. The history of the band goes way back to 1989, with frontman Page Hamilton working with David Bowie and Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails in the 90s as he told on KEXP, and cementing their status with their third album in 1994.
So in 2014, they already visited Rockhouse Salzburg to play the whole record for its 20th anniversary. Needless to say, it is worth to celebrate again as „Betty“ turns 30. Punctually at 7.30 pm, the doors of ((szene)) open, and luckily Helmet start one hour later, so there is enough time to go to the cloakroom and acclimatize.
„Wilma’s Rainbow“ starts the album containing hits like „Milquetoast“, which appeared on „The Crow“ and „Beautiful Love“ with its quiet Jazz start. People talking upset other visitors, like the mobile phones and lack of space – regular concert conditions.
After a break, Helmet return for another best of set, this time setting the personal highlight with „Better“ and the huge rolling standards „Unsung“ and „In The Meantime“ in the encore. It is the unique staccato style of the distorted guitars, drums and singing, that is precise and always on point, that makes them outstanding – 100 percent recommendation.
Page Hamilton and his band like Jeff Waters and Annihilator are powerful as ever and don’t need a support act, as their riffs keep echoing in the head when already far away from the location. And it seems they like ((szene)) as it is sold out every time. Even in the foyer, the mood is great and people bang their heads.
So coming up next are Blues Pills, Dragony, The Doors Experience, Anomalie, Tremonti and the Punkrock Escalation.
