American Daydreams (Album 2025)
Johnny Indigo
Southern Alternative Americana Country Stoner Blues Rock
Even though the Alps might not be the Rocky Mountains, there exists a Wild West in Austria. Taking it back to the lowlands of the far East, one man set out to bring some heavy Blues from the hills to the peaks.
His name is Johnny Indigo and the music is in his blood. Working out of Primitive Studios along with Martin Schiske, Michael Schatzmann and more, he crafted his debut album „American Daydreams“. As the intro howls across the plains, like a classic Bob Dylan with mouth harp and an ominous brass section, the images of the Wild West are undeniable.
The lead single „Ridin Hi“ is an absolute blast! Followed directly by the beautiful duet „Mexicali“ with Ivery, who recently also worked with Ruhmer. The combined voices evoke the spirit of the „Summerwine“ cover by VV and Natalia Avelon. In the accompanying music video Ivery appears in the city, while Johnny Indigo roams the countryside like Wino did in „Somewhere Nowhere“ featuring Conny Ochs.
The path takes on a little bit more of an Indie Rock shape after that before transforming into a slow burning jam with mouth harp and banjo in „The Ballad of Billy Major“, dedicated to Johnny Indigo’s ‚secret Poker club‘. For single number three, he used footage of his grandfather for the music video, similarly like gab&gal did in „It Keeps Me Down“.
„Frontier Romance“ feels like a return to his roots as lead songwriter in Great Red Silence while the following song „Montana“ takes it back again to where „Ridin Hi“ came from. A slide guitar Blues with bongos, bells and Gospel feeling like Paul Plut, who Johnny Indigo incidentally has worked with as well. Another personal highlight is „Massive Jesus“ – an epitome of a cool, groovy Rock’n’Rolla like Alice Cooper with some AIR in between.
Finally the heavy distortion in „Ragdolls“ reveals Johnny Indigo’s love for Queens Of The Stone Age as well as for Frank Zappa and Jimi Hendrix. All of on display in this European Wild West Rock epic. And after two self proclaimed ‚soft launch‘ gigs at Mulatschag TV and the ‚Ranch zum Unterm Riadbom‘, the live release show will be going down at Kramladen on September 12th. This time for real!
