Breaking Down Genre Borders

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Maddie Ashman

„EU/UK 2025 – Rave Set“ presented by Arcadia Live, radio fm4 and The Gap at planet TT Raiffeisen Halle im Gasometer Wien, Austria 20251112

Another week sprancled with outstanding live options: Dätcha Mandala, Of Kings And Villains, Conny Ochs, Jamiroquai and this years’ Storm Of Damnation and the next Tonherd labelnight are just some of them. Dimmu Bongir continue the Bong-series after Bongripper. And Perturbator are not the only electronic highlight, as Arcadia Live presents one more at Gasometer

Amy Jean designed a marvelous gig poster for King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard: Rave Set. The exceptional Australian Psych Rock band returns to the venue after 2023 and touring with orchestra shows at e.g. Royal Albert Hall as well. Hailing from this very place, the city of London, Maddie Ashman plays as support. The singer-songwriter starts early with her cello on stage, while the air outside is freezing.

Then everything is ready for KG&TLW: big lights on both sides of the stage and the video screen in the back, where visuals and the band and audience shot on camera live will be seen. In the middle, they build up their synthesizers, not leaving out live drums and guitars.

Frontman Stu Mackenzie apperas with a hat like from „First Snow Of Summer“, singing ‚dancin‘ is good for ya’. In some way those deep beats remind of the innovative „Blade“ soundtracks, while the following guttural vocals bring up vibes of the Mongolian Progressive Folk band The Hu

‚This is the place for the human race‘ and ‚it’s coming up beach boys‘, some lyrics support the electronic sound world as well as a transverse flute. So KG&TLW do include their Psychedelic skills, add them to party rhythms and expand them with heavy moments coming close to Oranssi Pazuzu

For sure there are not many bands, who can play and combine completely different genres like this. But as they obviously do what they want and love, fans of those different genres celebrate them, just like Bat & Ryyd at a Metal festival. And with Sevendust, Asomvel, Igorrr and Biffy Clyro, there is a lot waiting at Gasometer, just like on the program of Arcadia Live with AF90, Pabst, Rosmarin, Kreiml & Samurai and more.
