Please don’t put your life in the hands of a rock ‘n’ roll band

Oasis

This might be the most personal review/article I have ever written. Each and every one of them has a piece of me in them; however, this time is different.

Ever since I was a little kid, I remember Oasis as one band that was able to move every fiber of my, then small, self. I remember listening to them for the first time while playing one of the mixtapes my dad had in his collection, a mixtape his closest friend prepared for him with the cool songs of the moment, recorded directly from the radio. Bangers from the Be Here Now (1997) like D’You Know What I Mean?, or the lovely Stand by Me, to mention a couple.

From there, it was an instant crush. I was craving for more of that pair of brothers rocking my virginal ears to the bone. A rabbit hole I could never escape from, the holy trinity of Oasis albums were at my reach, Definitely Maybe (1994), (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? (1995) and the aforementioned, Be Here Now (1997).

The rest is history from that point. Until one day, November 28th of 2008, at Arena VFG, Guadalajara, México. Little did I know that was going to be the first and “last” time I would be able to experience the roof-blowing energy of the Gallaghers on stage.

I remember my lil’ sis wanted to join me, but she wasn’t able to go and that marked her (us) for life after that “Unglory Morning” of the 28th of August, 2009, fatal news were blasting everywhere, Oasis had officially broken up, the Gallaghers couldn’t stand to see each other, let alone play in the same band. Then, I remember telling my sister to ease the shock, “Whenever they’re back, I promise we will go together, whatever it takes me.”.

Years came and went by, and I could see both the Gallaghers live a couple of times with their respective solo projects. Were they good? Yes. Is Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds an amazing project? Yes. Was I obsessed with As You Were (2017)? Yep. But still, it was never like that amazing night at the “land of Tequila”. I even celebrated the ManCity Champions trophy (2023) as if it was my own victory, following a tweet from Liam stating that if that happened, he would call his brother and “bring back the f***ing band together”. What a day, it was all words and one of those classic neurotic LG tweets.

The next year, we had little hope in those vague promises and media gossip, the 30th Anniversary Tour of the magnificent Definitely Maybe with Liam on the vocals, but no sign of Noel anywhere. Rumors of the long-awaited comeback were ringing at least every year since The broke up. Suddenly, Liam Gallagher finished his show at Reading Festival 2024. A simple image was projected, “27.08.24” with the well-known typography of the band. There are no words in any language to describe how I felt.

A call from my sister, 15 years later, the moment to fulfill that old promise has arrived. Shows in Ireland and the UK were announced. The Comeback is official, July 4th, 2025.

By the time I’m publishing this article, the world will be less than 4 hours away from listening to Oasis Live again after 15 years.

Stay tuned for the upcoming parts of this series of articles/reviews, where I will be writing about these long-awaited comeback shows, the 3 of them I will be attending.

Write in the comments, which Oasis song would you like to listen live?
