Late Night Hip Hop Action
Afu-Ra, Szkrat, Lady Ill-Ya, Knostl Da Rapper, Kimo
Weberknecht Wien, Austria 20191116
It still is a pity that Kurtis Blow cancelled his tour and show at the Flex those days. But one of his support acts from NYC plays an intimate show at the basement of the Weberknecht instead, as he already did two years ago.
Before the spectacle starts with some delay, tunes of Rakim and Run DMC help to shorten the waiting. Kimo and the Broke MCs open the show and convince a cappella as well as with their beats that amongst others got oriental influences. The dedication to the music you can also feel as Knostl Da Rapper plays his set. He is already known performing as U-Bahn-Star or together with Rocky. This evening, he freestyles on beats form Macklemore, Cypress Hill, Beginner, Eminem and more.
The third act is the Nu Metal band Szkrat from Zlín, Czech Republic. They used to play with two rappers, got a new drummer and a replacement bassist, as their actual one Stromzeleny got sick. But their performance rocks, due to a great flow and hooklines. Lady Ill-Ya then performs a powerful set including “Wien” and “Mich interessiert’s nicht”. Support she gets from Schoko MC, who drops the beats for her.
After Onyx, Afu-Ra is another Eastcoast hero playing in town. He worked with people from Gang Starr to GZA to Samy Deluxe and M.O.P. His set includes hits like the great “Equality” and his song with Gentleman “Why Cry”. Before and after the show, he takes his time to talk with his fans and take pictures. In this way, it was a lucky thing, that this Hip Hop legend played at this very location again. For the aftershow party, DJ King (Deine Mutter Records, Penetrante Sorte, Kid Pex) and Spinelly (Duzz Down San Records) take responsibility of a nice music selection.
