The Big Rock & The Southern Charm
Black Stone Cherry, 10 Years
The Celebrate Tour presented by Mind Over Matter Music at SIMMCity Wien, Austria 20260917
While Cenotaph from Mexico honors Escape Metalcorner this Thursday, our way leads to Simmering again for the second time this week. After La Coka Nostra, it only takes bit further to SimmCity, for a nowadays Southern Rock institution. Inspired by likes of Lynyrd Skynyrd, they are the link to a new generation like Johnny Indigo.
Songs from likes of Curtis Mayfield over Bloodhound Gang to Ozzy Osbourne welcome to the sold out show presented by Mind Over Matter Music. As support, 10 Years from Knoxville, TN open with their Alternative Rock and Metal. Highlights of a highly energetic show with screams and full sound are „Gravity“, the „Heartshaped Box“ cover (even though opinions might vary) and „Shoot It Out“ before „In The Mood“ by Glenn Miller is used as outro.
From Kentucky, the main act Black Stone Cherry has been around since 2001, similar to Airbourne, Billy Talent or Volbeat. They toured with Motörhead, on festivals and even recorded a live album at Royal Albert Hall. Especially their first three studio LPs cemented their name in the genre.
Now they return with a new EP „Celebrate“ (which is funnily written on the cups of the venue), consisting of new material and a Simple Minds cover. Meanwhile their backdrop displays their known typography and Nirvana kind of logo, as they enter to AC/DCs „Hells Bells“.
Their live performance is another one of their trademarks, as guitarist Ben Wells jumps across the whole stage for the entire duration. Apart form songs like the new „Deep“, „Hell and High Water“, „Things My Father Said“ (with people lighting their cups with their mobile lights) and the drum solo are more highlights, plus the percussion.
Soon enough, Black Stone Cherry go their finals with „White Trash Millionaire“, „Blame It On The Bloom Bloom“, „Lonely Train“ and „Peace Is Free“, the fans happily sing with them. Of course, one could wish for more like „Blind Man“, still Black Stone Cherry leave after a big Rock show to Backstage in Munich.
Meanwhile, MOM brings up Devin Townsend, Pussy Riot, Soen, The Halo Effect and more next, and SimmCity will host WITTR, Razorlight, Black Star Riders and Sólstafir with Enslaved amongst others.
