The Power Of The Distorted Guitar
Caged Wolves, Opium Masala
„A Deserts Tale“ Album Release Show presented by Tape Capitol Music, Flex Café Wien, Austria 20241115
It is one of those Fridays with too many possibilities: Moop Mama return after the FM4 Geburtstagsfest, Ewig Frost and Fessus bring the Storm of Damnation and Rhymetime brings Mo Cess & Testa to B72. Yet we head to Flex, where at the hall, Zhu is up, and at the Café, heavy riffs are about to burst.
Before, the Morgans invites for a pre-show drink with songs by Linkin Park and Foo Fighters. Typing the name of the support act in instagram, a warning tells that ‚this might be associated with the sale of drugs‘: Opium Masala (grazil) are on everywhere fuzzy, at Sauzipf Rocks, Stick & Stone Fest, Echoes Of Erebos with Motorpsycho, The Raw Stuff with Mother’s Cake or on Saturday at Savanah’s 10th Anniversary show.
The duo creates a sound like a Rock’n’Roll orchestra, similar to Of Kings and Villains. Full speed and the wah-wah effect emboss the beginning. Cowbell and tambourine expand the rhythm section and breaks train the neck muscles like „Mi Amore Mia“ from the „Miau Miau Demos“.
After the guitar hit the railing, Bright Eyes’ „First Day Of My Life“ gives the ears a little rest. But the next storm of distortion is just right behind the corner. Because Caged Wolves present the successor of their EP „Act Of Nature Beyond Control“, the full-length „A Deserts Tale“.
As most of their songs are pretty long, they can only fit few in their showtime and each is a banger like „Call Of The Void“ or „Chaac“. Their energy underlines the power of the (distorted) guitar. And even though good sets don’t need an encore, this mighty fine celebration could have lasted longer.
But the beautiful vinyl is available at the merchandise table like gig and fan art posters. And others announce the next Tape Capitol Music (Crelm, Lion Season, Orange Skies, Vulvarine, Discorrected) shows with Glazed Curtains, The Komets, Annie Taylor and more.
