Tear out and get back

Downfall Of Gaia, Hamferð, Gates Of Sleep

European Tour MMXVIII, Viper Room Vienna, Austria 20180208

The (concert-)year 2018 startet awesome. One of the reasons were the amazing gigs at the Viper Room, was it the evening with Septicflesh, Inquisition and the outstanding Odious or the one with Crazy Town featuring Confessions Of A Traitor and Here For A Reason, the place rules and hosts the next big night:

It all starts with the local Black Metallers Gates Of Sleep. Whether the name is about nightmares while sleeping or the nightmare not getting to sleep in the capital city, their music could be the soundtrack for both in a positive way of course. The classic Black Metal blasts get combined with nice intros and solis. The light is minimalistic with just three blue spots, and after they’re finished, one after another leaves the stage, leaving only a loop.

Second band on stage are Hamferð from the Faroe Islands. They deliver a wonderful Doom show free of knots. The lyrics are in their language and singer Jón switches between beautiful clean singing and growling. That they perform in suits appears a bit funny, as the Vienna Opera Ball is taking place that night too. Their new record “Támsins likam” they sign with “Käse” and “Grose Käse”, telling it is a joke they like to do, thanks for that guys.

After Black and Doom Metal, the final act of the evening performs Post- or respectively Sludge Metal: Downfall of Gaia is the band completing a great mix. After they supported Conan together with Hark and High Fighter about a year ago at Arena, they come back as headliners this time. And watching them again is completely worth every single cent of the cheap 14 Euro! The only problem is the break before the encore that tears one out of the mood. But thanks to the awesome music and performance you get back instantly.
