90s Alt-Rock Spacegrunge Shoegaze Pop Punk

Many people have a special band or genre, that brought them to their music taste, if they have one. At a point, it is likely to follow the call and play the same music too. So did Hannes Pröstler with his solo debut, like his musician colleague from Intra Bianca Ortner did with Kaja Kalea. 

Like Soviet Soviet or Torpedo Torpedo, he chose a double name for his project: Dreamer Dreamer he sees under the influence of Smashing Pumpkins, Deftones and others. The colorful album cover art makes think of the 90s music videos like Rollins Band’s „Liar“ or Nirvana’s „Heart Shaped Box“ by Anton Corbijn. 

Musically the LP starts quietly with little distortion but then hits in with a fantastic heavy riff in „Reveal“. The vocals shift between Sum 41, Linkin Park and the Foo Fighters. Also there’s a Progressive Post Rock flavour similar to Black Peaks and metallic fill-ins in „Echo“. 

In the video for „Aether“, a dark figure follows Hannes Pröstler in the woods, while the great harmony and refrain brings up Jimmy Eat World, Evanescence, Oasis and Feeder from „American Wedding“. The guitar sound got some Godsmack feeling, so a certain heaviness is always there, even though the Pop appeal is big as well e.g. in „Placebo“. 

Beat and (several) voices are important as well. For the title track „New Face“ a video was released with kind of found footage by Animoscillator and another 4:3 one for the final „Diving“, starting with noises from the ocean and seagulls. 

Together with likes of Arklight, Dreamer Dreamer can be seen as the bright future of Alternative Rock. Pressuring guitars and light melodies are packed in this beautiful production, that is available on vinyl. And the very first live performance will be on 5th December 2024 at Kramladen.
