Talking About Big Indie Action
Greyshadow, Velvet Wasted
Chelsea Wien, Austria 20230204
While the sold out playoff of the Planet Festival Tour at ((szene)) features bands like VLUN, they way leads to Chelsea, where Cousines Like Shit or Fleks performed lately. Tonight, like several months before, a band invites to their homecoming gig after stops like Tribaun and ppc, but this time with special guests. Waiting for the show, tunes from Stone Sour prepare the willing listeners.
Velvet Wasted from Graz explain their name as bipolarity of soft and hard sounds. Like their designs, that display e.g. a rose with phone connectors or a skull like an apple on their latest single artwork. Seeing them on stage, the thought comes up, that it is impressing, how many great Indie Rock bands are around. Their songs like „Heart On A Rodeo“, „Cold Minds“, „Blame It On The Nights“ or „So Fast“ remind of the mighty Weezer or countrymen like Fiesta Forever or gab&gal. The riffs can be heavy Blues like The Black Keys indeed, while the discreet guitar solos are extremely fine. Soon they will play live again, with likes of Glazed Curtains amongst others.
The room is filled with all generations, as Greyshadow starts with his band. Already last year, Sebastian Kierner (Amber Road) took the place of Alessio Bertoldi on guitar. Peter Anglor on keys gives songs like „A Higher Place“ and „The Weight“ the little extra, while Max Zauner (d) and Max Hofer (b) have fun as the rhythm section. Between „Alive“ and the brand-new output „Sweet Promises“, the group plays one song just in the light of the mobile phones of the audience. Getting closer to the end, „Fast“ is again a highlight and great advertisment for the upcoming album. With Ario Omidvar, Andreas Pürzelmaier and Bakir Almasari, even three photographers are present, and flyers announce Great Rift and Spidergawd as well as Fritsch & The Jims at Club 1019..
