King Of The Hill (EP 2023)
Liberation Orchestra
Progressive Rock Crossover Classical Jazz
„You’ve never heard music like this before…“ and „This is really some powerful shit!“ it says on the website. A twelve-headed group looks into the camera lens of photographer Beniamin Urbanek. And on the EP-cover, the band logo reminds of a nice coffee place like Café Nahid or April.
But Liberation Orchestra is about big music. The EP has the name „King Of The Hill“, that sounds like a movie title. And the three songs (and two live bonus tracks) could be a soundtrack easily, combining the energy of Rock and more instruments like Spidergawd or Dog Eat Dog.
To present the successor of „Alcudia / Inner Mediation“ produced by Arian Rezaie, the band played a release show with Cadû at Aera. The first song of the record is „See Through“, talking about seeing through situations so ‚there’s no suprise in it, you understand it, you accept it‘.
First, the ELP piano drives off, then joined by the guitar, the hi-hat, brass section and bass. The voice makes think of Sinistro, putting the scene in a gloomy glow and with colourful neon lights. The solo reminds of Renan Lourenço and the vigorous drums and guitar of Henrik Huber.
Number two has the name of a renowned movie: „Psycho“ has a more AC/DC Hard Rock and (Gothic) Heavy Metal flair like Ignea. It feels hunted, like running through a jungle or forest. Getting up the hill, the song takes to a wild summit, from where there is no going further.
The EP title is part of the final track: ‚„Boy with the Toy“ is King of the Hill‘. Twelve minutes, in which a lot happens. The softer brass parts sound like David Bowie, the great vocals like Ennio Morricone and the break initiating the beautiful ending of Pink Floyd.
