Worn Out Shoes (Album 2026)
Maria Magdalena
Experimental Indie Singer-Songwriter
Some things just have to feel right. Like starting to write and publish own music. Seeing others do so is inspiring. That’s the point of view of Tobias Pöcksteiner. Heavy Rock bassist in Animal Machine, part of music theaters, the Bregenzer Festspiele and concert booker. With a little help from some friends, he released the debut of his solo project.
As Maria Magdalena, he had the live premiere at Kulturcafé Max and later played with Ivery at Café 7*Stern. She joined him on the album „Worn Out Shoes“ as well as Glam, Lorenz Ferchländer and Michi Schatzmann. Mastered by Aras Levni Seyhan, the cover photo comes from Lisa Zalud and the artwork is by Anna Kohlweis.
It shows Maria Magdalena barefoot on a chair, artfully entwined with lines in soft light. The soft light of Winter accompanies the music video for the first single „Going Out“. Shot by Elisa Kroiss at various locations like in front of an Otto Wagner railing in Vienna, things are moving backwards as Maria Magdalena goes forward.
References can be found a lot, like DuoLia. or The Beatles. An early highlight is „Tyres“ with a spoken intro and choir character with beautiful melodies, bringing up Eels or Foo Fighters’ „Home“. Another video they shot for „Über die Angst“ at Semmelweisklinik, with an Epiphone Casino, this time reminding of ghostdog. and Paul Plut.
The cosy feeling continues and adds flavors of Wino & Conny Ochs. „Dust“ even comes with some swing like Voodoo Jürgens, while the Yann Tiersen keys ballad „Those December Days“ has a monumental length of almost ten minutes, displaying Maria Magdalena’s voice range.
With „For Maria“, the album finds an equally beautiful end as it is overall. Yunger and Months Of Indecision are right there, also production-wise, earthy, organic and warm. „Worn Out Shoes“ makes you want to make music again yourself. And the release tour leads to Germany, Spektakel Wien, Kunst Klub Kräftner Graz and Proberaum Scheibbs.
