Two weeks left until Christmas and time for the most brutal celebration by the end of this year: After the Fessus album release party, the Morbidfest finishes with five bands from the extreme sector at ((szene)), presented by TON Music.
The first visitors arrive early, so they don’t miss the opening act, bringing on some Dark Metal: ‚Hello brothers and sisters, we are Ater from Santiago de Chile.‘ Just about a month ago, they published their latest single „Venus“. Combining dark atmosphere with heaviness, Ater have the audience on their side. As the outro comes too early, they wish to ‚see you again‘, performing a conjuration similar to Enslaved.
Theaterical elements and the adjuratory atmosphere continue with Nightfall from Athens, Greece. Shots from the microphone stand of Efthimis Karadimas bring the „Darkness Forever“. Since 2021, Vasiliki Biza on bass is the newest member unleashing „The Cannibal“. And as the dagger flashes, it is about the ‚creatures of the night‘ – „Witches“.
Second band from Greece on the billing are Suicidal Angels. The Thrash icons shared this very stage with Satyricon before and take care of the pit. Songs like „Purified by Fire“, „The Return of the Reaper“ or „Crypts of Madness“ are made to escalade. ‚You’ve seen Suicidal Angels‘, they point out as they leave to the riffs of ZZ Top’s „Sharp Dressed Man“.
Talking about riffs, the speed gets to its peak with the LA Grindcore maniacs from Terrorizer. In 2019, they celebrated 30 years of „World Downfall“, returning this time with a special set and limited hoodies. ‚You’re not at a fucking library – make some noise!‘, they demand. „Death Shall Rise“, they dedicate to Jesse Pintado. As finals, they serve „Crematorium“ and „Nightmares“, telling that they are fans themselves.
Because the white Cross of Saint Peter and with the fiery red announce the pioneers. The legends in Death Metal from the Bay Area. Possessed. Years after SBOA, they come to celebrate the 40th anniversary of „Seven Churches“. Some more songs like „Tribulation“ flank the classic album with bangers like „Burning in Hell“.
As a beautiful Extreme Metal evening comes to an end, the Morbidfest continues to Explosiv, Vaudeville, Eindhoven Metal Meeting and more. And ((szene)) will start the new year with likes of Hallucination Company, Ellende, Kontrust, Cryptopsy amongst others.
