II (Album 2025)
Pulverin
Contemporary Hard Dance Music
1 May, International Worker’s Day and time for DIY Anarcho Electronic music. Two artists, notably Ottó Horváth and Daniel Schatz, part of Primitive Studios like Martin Schiske or Michael Schatzmann, together are Pulverin. The name might refer to what their sound can do to the mind: pulverize and hypnotize to a blank state.
Bloodshed666, home of Ação Direta, desolat, The Bassenger and more, publishes the album „II“ on vinyl with distribution by Sounds of Subterrania. It starts with a crumbling beat in „Fetter Löwe“, awakening feelings of Mr. Oizo. With manic distortion, melody and singing, the project New UrengoY builds another association.
Beat and voice are equally important in „Masina Place“, where the saxophone is like in the „48 Hrs.“ score by James Horner. With „Blad Dracula“, a personal highlight follows. Dark and sinister, transcendental and unsettling, almost Black Metallic, it gives Horror vibes like Ennio Morricone’s „Paura“ would do at Roadburn Festival.
Second highlight is the live recording „Write Wrong“ with its Hip Hop impact like a „Blade“ soundtrack or Iron Sy’s „Resistant“ from Luc Besson’s „Banlieue 13“. With the beat and bass and Punk portion in „Octopus Woman“, yet another genre comes up and names like Arnold Burk, Ministry and label colleagues Phal:Angst.
Album closer „The Walt“ sums up the things heard with kind of riffing and distortion. Heavy breaks and changes, willful vocals and etchy melodies are leveled to pierce through the brain. The general focus on the rhythm justifies the term ‚dance music‘, even though it’s not exactly close to likes of Deichkind.
It is more the soundtrack factor like ghostdog. or Caspar Brötzmann Massaker, that makes Pulverin’s „II“ enjoyable. With few quiet parts, it still offers relaxation to switch off the world outside and enter the world of the duo like a powder tower (converting to a ‚Pulverschiff‘ by OK F*K).
