Robots, Pussyflies and Evil Plans

Tenacious D, Wynchester

Post Apocalypto Tour presented by Barracuda Music and Mind Over Matter Music, Wiener Stadthalle – Halle D, Austria 20200213

Whether you are a fan of big halls like the Wiener Stadthalle or not, this year it has a lot to share: Slipknot, Deichkind, Avril Lavigne, Pearl Jam, Aerosmith, Tash Sultana, RAF Camora, Simply Red, Ozzy Osbourne, Die Ärzte, The Dire Straits Experience, and those are not even all of them.

This night a very rare guest will be up on stage. When you enter, The Who tunes like “Pinball Wizard” and “We’re Not Gonna Take It” set you in a good mood. As support two guys under the name Wynchester already show what great sound you can achieve with only two acoustic guitars. They joke that this is the biggest pub they have played in. Maybe they are named after the pub Winchester or they just think of gigs like Wir & Jetzt play. They also tell how they’ve been taught about Satan, Weed and Dio, to whom they dedicate one song, and apart from a show with KGB at the Conrad Sohm, this is their first show in Austria.

One of the two is up again on stage as guitarist of the main act. Tenacious D are here to present their new record in its entire, including the animatic series. Therefor they use a semi-transparent canvas, to tell the story including the two-headed dog, diverse creatures with vaginas and Trump Jr. Anyway if a butterfly with a vagina is flying on the screen and later on a toy saxophone is played, you are enjoying Jack Black and Kyle Gass live. The greatest hits block includes “Rize Of The Fenix” and “Roadie”, and for “Master Exploder” from “The Pick Of Destiny” they make a playback joke. That Kyle Gass is hit directly by a cup thrown from the audience is just completely unnecessary. But they stay professional and at the end thank Vienna, except that one guy. Apart from that it was marvellous to see the two and songs like “Kickapoo”, “Beezleboss”, “Tribute” and “Fuck Her Gently” live.
