Yunger
„A Traveller’s Story“ Album Release Show at rhiz Vienna, Austria 20251017
As autumn lays a romantic mood upon the city, new music by likes of Verrat, Rämbow or Black Cherry Marble is on its way. In the south-east, Boon or Little Hole Filled invite for live action, like Count Catfish, Reverend Beat-Man & Milan Slick (Voodoo Rhythm Records) and more do along the cobbled way of the Gürtel.
Already three years ago, Yunger presented his second album next door at Kramladen. Tonight, he returns where he performed his very first show and Demasiado Humano played recently: at rhiz. It is the premiere as full band, delivering twenty songs focusing on the new album in front of a sold out room.
They begin with the classic „Bus Ride“ and „Watcha Gonna Do“, before diving deep into „A Traveller’s Story“. „Where Did Our Punk Rock Days Go“ Yunger asks and gives the band a break at a point to play two songs about hiking in Norway and Scotland, showing his fantastic fingerpicking skills.
With Alvin from All Faces Down, he sings „Stories“. The duet „Half of a Whole“ with Stella for Strangers who joined the band is another incredibly beautiful highlight. On bass, he welcomes handpan musician Timay, who he met in 2019 and went on tour with right away.
The fourth member of the group is guitarist Matthäus Siebenhofer, who learned mandolin for the show. Going back in his extensive repertoire, Yunger takes out the e-guitar for „Smile“. After cancelling his law studies, he wrote „Keep On Walking“. And performing a Folk cover of the early 20th century as first encore unplugged, the pretty voices of the four remind of Árstíðir, Boys II Men or Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.
It is the lyrics to relate to, combined with the ‚major harmonies‘ and the great guitar playing, that make each Yunger show bring one close to tears. Accompanied by sing-along choirs, clapping and cheering, the successful release show kicks of the tour, taking „A Traveller’s Story“ to Germany, Italy and even Greece.
