Post Rock Shoegaze Post Punk Ambient Industrial

Autumn, post summer blues. Holidays are over, daily routine and reality return. Every now and then, a ray of hope appears. As society is split, a Post Rock duo thinks about splitting splits ‚again and again however, wouldn’t that mean a comeback of nuance, plurality and community?‘

Actually a nice thought, that le_mol come up with. Out via Noise Appeal Records (Phal:Angst, The Burning Flags, Lausch), their sixth album is entitled „SPLIT SPLIT“. Established in 2012, they shared the stage with likes of Tides from Nebula or Esben and the Witch. With the new material, they crash Kulturhof Villach with Laser Eyes (Grazil), PMK, Szimpla Kert and finally B72 with Our Ceasing Voice.

The aesthetic artwork comes from Hanna Hollmann. Warm colours combined and resulting in forms, with bandname and albumtitle in the lower-right corner. As the round is spinning „split it“, a certain sequence of notes puts a spell on the listener immediately, giving a Sci-Fi soundtrack feeling like „Matrix“ without escape. The beat could work in Hip Hop like Pale Male’s „Shortcuts“ with noises in the background.

Calmer piano tones in „split the rich“ make think of Yann Tiersen, while „splitsville“ crescendos make the sound field grow like Kairon;IRSE. „split brain“ is mainly based on two chords, carrying the whole track, whereas „splitter“ got chosen as single. Stadium Rock drums get accompanied by a Grunge riff, going laid back and bringing in Earthset as reference.

Cyborg Folks musician The Zew contributes the only vocals on the album in „split tongue“, with fine melodies, that get the head spinning as Moby can. „one third split second“ builds a beautiful finish, not missing heavy distortions again and wild drums. le_mol know how to play with loops, noises, atmospheres and Rock like The Underground Youth; the vision – the hope is within reach.
