I say Wednesdays are now Fridays
Danko Jones, Split Dogs
Rising Tour presented by Mind Over Matter Music at Flex Wien, Austria 20261014
‚It’s a beautiful day, people on the streets when the sun comes out.‘ So it is this afternoon at Donaukanal, while God Mother honor the Venster99. Meanwhile our way passes by the Spittelau incinerator of Hundertwasser, the Grelle Forelle and Summerstage, constantly approaching the Flex. ‚Still like it just a little better when the sun goes down‘, as people are pouring in the hall until it is packed for a Rock’n’Roll show.
Mind Over Matter Music presented likes of H-Blockx or Drowning Pool at the very venue earlier this year. This evening begins with massive Rock from Bristol, UK by Split Dogs. While their name makes think of Dogs vs. Gods or Dogstar, their sound and presence is more of L7, Juliette and The Licks, Amyl and The Sniffers or even Motörhead.
Especially frontwoman Harry Martinez has got the look and the energy, that spreads to the audience. It’s „Rock N Roll Business“ being „Born Too Loose“ as a „Prison Bitch“ going „All In“. The start definitely couldn’t be better, so quite some listeners visit the merchandise table for vinyls and shirt after.
Main act Danko Jones from Toronto, Canada frequently crosses the ocean to play at Vaudeville, SBOA or Flex. With twelve albums, „Leo Rising“ is the latest, making this the ‚Rising Tour‘. The first concert in Vienna, ‚we played at a Café near Arena‘, Danko claims, ‚in front of five people‘.
„Everday is Saturday Night“ fits this Wednesday, taking on a „First Date“. The sentence ‚I came here to fuck shit up and have a good time‘ is solid enough to be printed on a shirt, the opposite of „Invisible“. At the end stands „Full of Regret“ (that featured Lemmy in the video clip) and „Had Enough“ from „Below The Belt“, before the encore includes the „Lovercall“.
Danko Jones simply is a Rock’n’Roll force to count on. Each song a banger and lines to sing with result in a pleased audience. Feels like Wednesdays ‚are my birthday‘.
