Like A Traditional Yet Different
kurzfristig, gab&gal
Eugen & Emma Arena, Dornbirn, Austria 20210625
While the voting for the sound@V award is coming to an end, two nominated bands have the opportunity to play at the newly invented Eugen & Emma Arena, build for public viewing of the Euro 2020 and to present other events to a bigger audience.
In Dornbirn, the organizers have set up a huge tent, that provides a lot of space for the interested crowd. The first ones on stage are gab&gal, who recently played in Lech already. Their keyboarder Sebi travelled here from Tyrol for the gig, on the bass this time is Oliver from Juleah (who will release the new album in July and appear at the Szene Open Air), and as special guest, Thomas is on percussions. The set includes the classics from their first two records like “Alone In This” and “15 Years” but also the two latest singles “June” and “See You Everywhere”. As the batteries of the microphones have to be changed, they improvise a battery-song. The atmosphere they compare to the traditional tent feasts or a darts match and have fun calling out a certain table number.
This joke with the tables, kurzfristig then do as well. They have been busy with their debut “Hoizemm” and are known from playing open air at their home village Fraxern or the rundklang concert series in Feldkirch. The year before, they streamed one of their relaxed band practices online. And this evening they show that all work was worth everything. Next to the drums, acoustic bass, guitar and all of their voices, they have more instruments like a trombone, ukulele, mouth harp and melodica with them. With those, they perform their originals like “Beach” and “I Mog Di” as well as covers from Bob Marley, Sting, the Pulp Fiction soundtrack, Donavon Frankenreiter, Michael Jackson, Kings Of Leon, Jet and many more. And like those two wonderful acts, there are still many more to come and play at this tent like Prinz Grizzley, the Ski-Schuh-Tennis Orchestra, Philipp Lingg and Granada.
