No End in Sight
Radio Moscow, Kaleidobolt, The Heavy Minds
The Drifting Tour Europe / Roadtrip To Outta Space, Arena Wien – Kleine Halle, Austria 20171017
It is time, time for another Roadtrip To Outta Space. Even though with a really not infamous name, the small hall of the Arena is chosen, and therefor is sold out.
And so the first band has a well-filled room in front of them. The Heavy Minds is the name of the unbelievable awesome young formation from Upper Austria. Their playing is tied, and in a very good, relaxing way it gives a feeling like slowing down. Wonderful. That is how handmade sound is done. Especially the excessive use of the effects is fun to watch and the spacy sounds to hear.
With Kaleidobolt, the speed goes up. The electric trio from Helsinki, Finland, plays a vigorously progressive psychedelic rock, including nice changes and jazzy insoles. They have a furious and therefore involving style to play. And, what was a standard at for example Motörhead shows, and is not seen that often anymore: an incredible drum solo. Reminded of great experiences, especially because Valtteri Lindholm’s intense performance in no way is inferior.
Not really inferior compared to their big trailblazers like Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath is Radio Moscow. Their sound switches jauntily between comparatively light-footed Blues Rock and the more heavy weighting Acid Rock. Compared to the contemporary brothers in the spirit like Rival Sons and Graveyard, they appear even rougher, especially the singing. Their live performance cements what Dan Auerbach from The Black Keys and now Century Media realized: their Rock’n’Roll mixture is built to last. The latest release “New Beginnings” and the opener as a track and as a live experience proof them right too.
The Retro Rock genre is booming, like the vinyl revival, and with big calibres and high-class shows like we had the pleasure to see that night, there is no end in sight.
