Accept, Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons

Humanoid Tour 2024, SimmCity Wien, Austria 20241109

After a fantastic first day, the Doom Over Vienna goes into its second round tonight with Helevorn from Palma and more at Escape Metalcorner. Heading to SiMM City instead, the venue and audience cause a little culture shock. At the multipurpose room, The Tribute played Bowie right before, and soon, likes of Alcest, Sólstafir, Moop Mama, Blues Pills, Mayhem, BZFOS and Dark Funeral will follow.

Most of the Heavy Metal fans arrive early to the sold out place, as the support is the highlight for many already: Phil Campbell and The Bastard Sons jumped in at the Wildstyle & Tattoo Messe in May. Beneath the Orange amp head, the flag of Wales is hanging, as Deep PurplesHighway Star“ comes from the speakers. With „We’re the Bastards“, the quintet enters.

Several Motörhead classics must not be missing: „Going To Brazil“, „Born to Raise Hell“, „Ace of Spades“ and „Killed By Death“. They split up the crowd in team Phil and team Todd to scream with them, and point the middlefingers to Tyla. From „Kings Of The Asylum“, they include „Schizophrenia“ and „Strike the Match“, and „Straight Up“ from the solo record „Old Lions Still Roar“, Phil wrote with Rob Halford, as he tells.

Unfortunately, they finish after ten songs, so there is not enough time for more hits like „Big Mouth“. Like Motörhead, Accept started in the 70s with Udo Dirkschneider on vocals. Often they are mentioned with Scorpions, where Mikkey Dee hits the drums nowadays. Their live EP „Kaizoku-Ban“ is a classic too, and this time, they tour with their new album „Humanoid“.

The stage is designed after the album artwork, and the cymbals are not standing but hanging. They like to do choreography parts like for „Restless and Wild“ and got CO2 Jets with them. As the room is too crowded, some have to watch the songs like „Dying Breed“ from „Blind Rage“ in front of the entrance.

Still the fans like to sing with Accept like in „Princess of the Dawn“ or „Balls to the Wall“. And as another little gimmick, they throw an inflatable orca whale to this Heavy Metal party.
