Austrian Death Machine, Distant, Ghost Iris
Presented by Viper Room Vienna, Napalm Records & Avocado Booking at Flex Wien, Austria 20240521
Pentecost, the descent of the Holy Spirit. Or in Vienna the date, when Donaukanal turns black. The reason is the very first visit ever of a special music project, that was uplifted from Viper Room Vienna to Flex, while ‚Punk Montag‘ at Arena Beisl features Gusch, Unxund and Bunt Cunnies.
All around the hall, black shirts of acts and events like As I Lay Dying, Machine Head, Napalm Death or Hellfest can be seen with few colorful exceptions (like the safety vests of the second band). Ghost Iris from Copenhagen open the evening and first circle pit with Metalcore. The led wall displays their logo while they use masks and the crutch of a visitor as a gun.
The high energy level even evolves and breaks down in a wall of death with Deathcore by Distant from Rotterdam. Especially their vocalist fires up the audience with eyes wide open and another shredder-weather by the band including „Heritage“. No wonder this outfit will spend summer on tour with none other than Suffocation and Born Of Osiris after.
Coming from San Diego like P.O.D., it is the first European tour for Austrian Death Machine. Formed by Tim Lambesis of As I Lay Dying, it features his wife Dany Lambesis on vocals of several songs. Before they start, a countdown appears on screen, including film snippets with Arnold Schwarzenegger they parody and pay tribute to.
So a masked version of the athlete, actor and politician is on stage for „Terminator 2 Theme“ and „I Need Your Clothes, Your Boots, and Your Motorcycle“. Before „No Pain No Gain“ from „Quad Brutal“ out via Napalm Records, Lambesis does some stretching.
The Predator then joins for „If It Bleeds, We Can Kill It“ and „Get to the Choppa“ and the Cookie Monster for „Who Told You You Could Eat My Cookies?“. This show with all gimmicks and video clips on the back is fun, no matter if you are a big fan of Schwarzenegger or not.
