From Summer Heat to the Cold of the Grave

As the asphalt is burning, the ray of hope is the cold basement of Viper Room several stories below street level and some freezing Black Metal. With some time left, the former suburb Weißgerber offers some sights on a walk. So the way leads past The Church International Pub and the church St. Othmar. The most famous spot is the Hundertwasserhaus, right next to the Palais des Beaux Arts. 

As the gates of Viper Room open, it is unusually bright. Downstairs, it’s dark and hell is cold. In this setting, TON Music presents a special solo show, as unfortunately Uada had to cancel their whole tour. But despite this, Hulder (Season of Mist like 1349, Carach Angren, Insanity Alert, Oceans of Slumber and more) embarked on their European tour including Mystic, Graspop, Hellfest, Lowland, BasinFire, Resurrection and In Flammen Open Air and appearing with Oranssi Pazuzu and Sólstafir. 

Hailing from the US with origins in Belgium, Hulder brought some parts of the forest to the stage. To create more atmosphere, some incense is burned, to get the nose there as well. A shady intro does the rest, as there’s „A Beacon From Darkened Skies“. „Hearken The End“ precedes some wind section backing track. In dark blue light, the Dark Metal unfolds its majesty. 

So Hulder sound like very classic Black Metal, but like to mix portions from other fields like Doom, Black’n’Roll and Folk, plus changes of rhythm. Interludes of children’s voices and pipes give recovery from the weight of blast beats. And after one hour, the frost is gone as the concert is finished. A short but big pleasure, distracting from the summerly heat and possible troubles. 

Only one week later, Viper Room offers the next lesson in heaviness with Nola sound from Eyehategod. And more is about to come like Kraanium, Panzerfaust, Crypta, Immolation, Vio-Lence, Anette Olzon, All Misery, Waltari, Oh Hiroshima, Black Sabbitch, Imha Tarikat supporting The Ruins Of Beverast, Schirenc plays Pungent Stench and many more.
