Ethereal Post Rock/Metal Shoegaze Stoner Sludge
There is this bright and colourful picture of the Netherlands. Flowers and windmills and the clear blue sky. But there exists something beneath, a darker facette, yet beautiful, that comes out in the music by likes of Ismena or mighty Dool.
This outfit from Rotterdam can serve as reference for ništa from Utrecht. They serve a fantastic debut, mixing great Doom and melodies like Sinistro with Our Survival Depends On Us. Therefore, on the cover a dead tree is placed in the middle. Behind is a lake and rocks. And what first appears to be something like blood stains, could be creatures in red as well, like in „The Village“.
From the very first second of „drown me“, you can let yourself fall into this rough land- and soundscapes. It feels like hovering or gliding with a boat above the fog that emerges from the water. The first riff with the calm Prog flair, accompanied by the wonderful voice and later the distortion, spread their welcoming wings in the solitude that gets hold of you.
As we drift further, the thick fog starts to clear, as „the light“ gets through. Another touching opening making think of Ozymandias. Again the guitars and the chorus let you fall deeper and even despite the heavy sound, the feeling is so light. A wonder like in Metal, so Tremonti comes up.
Later on in „he is“, British tones like Esben and The Witch and Rolo Tomassi can be found, up to In Flames, as the transition of noise comes particularly severe. All those marvelous elements come together one last time in „hear me out“. The slow riff tastes especially like NOLA Sludge and makes you want to return to the foggy start of this journey.
