Small Souki & The Big Trouble Band – Dancing With The Devil

Dancing With The Devil (Album 2026)

Small Souki & The Big Trouble Band

Sonic Grunge Psychedelic Experimental Rock

In the maze of psychedelic land, the urban junge, people are ‚hanging low. Their skeletons drag them slow‘. Opening words of „Stadtpark“ on „Dancing With The Devil“. A debut album holding up a mirror to civilization musically, pleading for freedom.

After „We Found The Earth – Part II“, Small Souki & The Big Trouble Band played e.g. with Tentacula at Kramladen and used the yearly celebration of 1bm, to present this very record. The title makes think of Holbein’s Danse Macabre, while the cover display a blurred vision of what could be probably a scenario at a concert – but the camera or the own vision is shaking heavily.

It is how it could feel, as the bass is rolling with the violin above. The vocals come in layers, like voices in the head and sky. The trip takes higher, the music expands. Terrifying, raising curiosity and in any way captivating. In „Q.O.S.“ (Queen of Sadness), the singing grows beyond, what can be seen in a live video shot at Arena Wien.

„Whale (a journey through the Mediterranean Sea)“ goes calmer, more atmospheric, raising thoughts of Bob Tilton with split chords and a southern feeling. The percussion like from Nirvana plays an important role in contrast, adjuratory and dark, while the melody turns to a ballad like Bob Dylan’s „Hurricane“.

From Southern, Grunge and Folk, the „Masturbation Song“ adds a Wild West, walking through the desert like in „Blackthorn“ or the plains of Burgenland. In a vision, he’s right there, the devil, „Satan“ has arrived. The groove paves the way for the spoken words and ones more, there goes a climax.

In the final moments, the dance goes Vintage / Classic Rock, taking back to Woodstock with Canned Heat amongst others. From urban jungle to the countryside, the psychedelic land is beautifully ecstatic, with a pinch of darkness.
