Aftryk (Album 2024)
Vægtløs
Post-Metal Post-Hardcore Blackgaze Extreme music with emotional lyrics
In Northern Denmark, way up from common festival grounds like Copenhell, Roskilde, Esbjerg Fuzztival or Næstved Metalfest, Aarborg is situated right at the Limfjord. After a split and a first 7“ entitled „Kakofoni“, from there comes a massive debut full of emotions.
Post Metallists Vægtløs released „Aftryk“ via 46 different labels including P.O.G.O. (Heckel & Jeckel), Starved Light and Silent Pendulum Records. In their album they deal with questions of loss and disease. Musically, they see themselves close to likes of Lightbearer, Deafheaven and Svalbard.
The album artwork was done by Jon Gotlev. It displays part of something that looks like a stone mask, that he will use for a music video as well. The eye is right there and a glimmer of red light comes from above, with the beautiful typography underneath. The video he did for the first track of the album „Ingenting kan forhindre, at små struber skælver en forårsnat“.
Apart from the mask, the red laser light is the main protagonist, touching various surfaces appearing similar to northern lights observed through a shutter in the forest. The song itself starts with a poem, and a fine gloomy melody like from Paul Plut. Then the screams burst the scene like from Vaataja while time flies.
Imperceptibly, it transforms to track two „Først da vi bar din kiste gik det op for mig, hvor meget tungt du skulle igennem, før du blev så let“. The darkness within reminisce about likes of Havária. And it doesn’t get easier with „Her i vores hjerter bærer vi en ny verden“, rolling in like „Colors“, and emerging with a fantastic climax.
„Tag dit knuste hjerte og lav det til kunst“ as the final fourth tune starts with a typical quiet lick, of course rumbling then to the last note too. „Take your broken heart and make it into art“ the translation says, and therefore, Ingerlise Oellgaard created another widescreen video, letting go negative flows with the sea.
