45 Jahre WUK Wien, Austria 20261003
While Hardcore celebrates One Scene Unity Fest at Weberknecht and Vienna Metal Meeting with Satyricon takes place at 50-year-old Arena, WUK turns 45 this weekend. On 3rd October 1981, the Wochenschau documented the historical event, now available on Filmarchiv.
For years, the WUK hosted the Waves Vienna, that goes in its finals with likes of Glut and Das Freie Energie Band. Not far away from the festival area at Gürtel, WUK’s doors open at noon already. With children’s discotheque ‚Shake Baby Shake‘ hosted by Yasmo (who performed e.g. with Spilif) and the following live action, the agenda appeals to every generation.
As the hall opens, Der Kuseng welcomes and moderates the evening. Recently, he has been very active at Kultursommer, Kulisse and on radio fm4 Happy Hour. In his short time, he presents an excerpt of „Hoamatland, Hoamatland“, as on the countryside, chosen names like ‚Saufi‘ are normal.
Like this, the room is crowded, as Lusterboden are the first band. The duo Florian Klingler and Merlin Miglinci is accompanied by three more musicians on drums, bass and guitar. As one of the new hopes of Austropop, they sing about „Vespa fahren“, „Kirschen spucken“ and hanging at the WUK – as they tell – in „Na Bravo“.
The generations present dance, and therefore are ready for the final show: Ankathie Koi with band Dominik Beyer, Thorsten Kaiser and Michael Schatzmann (both Ivery, AF90). Lately, she appeared at Theater im Park, the Georg Danzer tribute at donauBühne Tulln and Bühne im Hof St. Pölten.
Tonight, she fires highlights again like „Tiefer“ or „Nein, Nein“ from „Pikant“ or „Hurricane“. ‚Feminism is about same rights for all no matter which gender‘, she tells before going back to party with „Amour Fou“, „Rette sich wer kann“ and „Tanz dich rein“.
She gets several fans on stage, before going to stagedive herself. After this marvelous show, the evening continues with ‚Haus of Rausch‘ and a midnight drag show and Grandmaster Flash, Die Gewürztraminer, Sixpence None The Richer, Steaming Satellites, Xzibit and Mother’s Finest are on the calendar.
