Szene Openair – Day 2

The sun is shining, but people get on the train with rubber boots. The reason is the Szene Openair, where e.g. in 2021 the weather was dry. But not for the first time, the rain turns the meadow to a sea of mud like at Wacken or PRH and so the boots, rain jacket and trousers are the weapons of choice. 

Shuttle busses guarantee an easy arrival by public transport. On the camping site, loud music thunders all over the place. Like 15 years ago, the audience stays quite young and enjoys the festival vibes. Stepping outside the area, the Alte Rhein invites to refresh while the live acts already start to play at noon. 

On day one, Miss Weirdy and D.A.R.I.O. & Nika were the early Hip Hop highlights. Stick To Your Guns and the bands of the Jazzseminar Lustenau are among the first ones on day two. In the afternoon, Mele and Juju follow. With Sportfreunde Stiller, the Szene features one of the most important German bands of the 90s. 

They even have a new album with them, still the big hits are named „Applaus, Applaus“, the classic double-feature „Ein Kompliment“ and „Wunderbaren Jahren“, „7 Tage 7 Nächte“ and the beautifully corny „Siehst du denn das genauso“. On the smaller Szene stage, Thorsteinn Einarsson then fetches his fans with songs like „Kryptonite“. 

The run to the toilettes meanwhile causes a traffic jam between the bars. But for Bilderbuch, everything is ready. They simply seem to be made for this festival and deliver a fantastic dedicated show after the curtain falls. „Bungalow“, „Spliff“, „Baba“, „Frisbeee“ and „Maschin“ are just some of the titles the audience celebrates with them. 

As the weather stayed dry so far, the heavy rain just starts as they finish. But the night ain’t over before Finch, neither the festival, that continues on Saturday with more Austrian top stars like Cari Cari, Please Madame and Mathea.
