Sie kommen (Album 2023)
du zahlst
PostPop-NeoPunk
A vibrant Punk scene is healthy for a city like in Palermo or Vienna. In Salzburg, venues like Bricks, Corner, Rockhouse and Mark provide space for events like the Salzburger Pestspiele and acts like VLUN, Magic Delphin, Blood & Champagne and Tom The One.
The last two appeared with du zahlst already, who celebrated their album release at the Shakespeare, right next to Mirabell Palace. With Mixbär Max Hofer on bass, the band is the successor of Die Forläuver. On the illustrated cover of the record, the logo shows a hand with bloody money. In the format similar to a polaroid, police in full gear like on „A Place For Us To Dream“ by Placebo stand in front of exploding houses and factories.
After a catchy Wild West atmosphere intro, the sound explodes as well. du zahlst present a style of Old School Hardcore Punk, making think of Bad Brains and Rollins Band, spiced up with spacy synthesizer sounds of the band’s very own Piets BeatZone. With the speed like OFF! or The Exploited, they rant about murdering the planet, cars and neighbours.
Die Ärzte come to one’s mind several times, due to the language and for example when du zahlst use shakers and clean guitars and quote Reinhard Mey. The lyrics of „Betty Ford“ reminisce of Flava In Ya Ear and Peter Meyer and with the Reggae influence of Legs No Shoes. Then on „Eine kleine Insel“ bombs are tested, a prosecution like Kettcar or Public Enemy.
There are tons of more (local) associations like Bonjourtropfen, Gusch, Count Catfish or Rebell Bagatell. As ninth and final one, du zahlst serve a drinking song with a guitar rhythm like Guadaljara’s hidden track. In almost fourty minutes, they let their listeners feel their frustration, delivered with a pinch of humor.
