Comedy Musical of Hearts

Bill Murray, Jan Vogler, Vanessa Perez, Mira Wang

“New Worlds“ presented by Goodlive Artists at Wiener Konzerthaus, Austria 20250701

These days, the press spotted two ‚Hollywood stars‘ at Vienna International Airport. One is Carlos Santana. The other is about bringing joy to the Wiener Konzerthaus. So while the ‚Opernsommer‘ featuring Karl Markovics begins right next door, we head to the stylish building, which hosted likes of Art Garfunkel, Iggy Pop or Ankathie Koi before.

Responsible for the booking like for Macy Gray recently is Goodlive Artists. And the star is Bill Murray. He is known for movies like „Ghostbusters“, „Groundhog Day“, „The Dead Don‘t Die“, „St. Vincent“ or Wes AndersonsThe Phoenician Scheme“. Together with cellist Jan Vogler, he recorded an album and premiered the show „New Worlds“ in 2017. In 2018, they brought it to Vienna Museum of Art History already and in 2021 they released the film „New Worlds – The Cradle of Civilization“.

Now Bill Murray, Jan Vogler and friends return. Together with Vanessa Perez on piano and Mira Wang on violin to be more precise. Staying at the Intercontinental, they don‘t have a broad way to the Konzerthaus, to present an evening of poetry, (classical) music and dry humor like John Cleese who played e.g. at Theater im Park.

And so Bill Murray quotes Ernest Hemingway and hides when the music is playing or dances with Mira Wang. But what they ‚like to do is bring the poetry and music together‘, as Bill Murray starts to sing „It Ain‘t Necessarily So“ and play the bells for „When Will I Ever Learn To Live In God“.

“The Piano has been drinking“ he continues and combines Cooper with Schubert and talks about Schnitzel and that they didn‘t have pastries yet. From „West Side Story“, they add „I Feel Pretty“ and „America“. For the encore, they do several more like a Waltz. Then Bill Murray takes a round, throwing roses even backwards to the balcony.

The final one, he keeps for the page-turner. After a wonderful show and many bows, they leave. The next day, number one in press will be a video of a ‚grumpy‘ Bill Murray not willing to give autograms, which reminds of „Take, Take, Take“.
