Echoes of Erebos Festival 2026 Day One at Arena Wien 20260417

While acts like Somerby or Sun State Of Mind play at Gürtel, the beautiful Echoes of Erebos Festival goes in its third round. Dedicated to Underground Stoner Doom Rock and everything related, it hosted likes of Motorpsycho, Mars Red Sky, Lurch or Speck at MetaStadt.

This year marks the first edition at Arena. Two-days-ticket-holders get a nice woven wristband, and at the small hall, StoneFree have their records and The Raw Stuff a gig poster exhibition featuring aplacefortom, missfelidae, dr. knoche and more.

Musically, the day starts at 5 pm with Johnny and the Rotten. Playing in other bands like Salò or Leber, this project feels like coming from another decade in the best sense, just like the „Here Is Johnny II“ album artwork referencing „The Shining“. With the new band line-up, they are here to ban their Surf Punk potpourri on tape to create their next EP with keywords like ‚sunglasses‘.

With The Jupiter Effect (Canis Records), the live visuals start as well. Their strong sound reminiscents of Lush City Ferals with Californian vibes. The following Savanah does not bring sandy dust band turns everything one degree heavier to eleven. Like every time the trio played the very hall before, their presence is just memorable.

Past the half of day one, Lausch (Noise Appeal) are the magic Prog fairytale with rhythms by Klawuta. After the own It‘s A Sin fest at B72, they are perfect part of Echoes of Erebos. They also capture their song „Fortitude“ and take the listeners on a journey – ‚where?‘ – ‚to Graz.. David (Ruhmer, percussionist) just been there.‘

Finally the headliner is Mother‘s Cake, who presented „Ultrabliss“ at the very place exactly one year ago. They are „Your President“ and „Feel Alright“ – ‚not good, not bad‘. Their new material gets the people to the pit and they have ‚printed instruments‘ but ‚watch out! This song grooves – stop! too much groove!‘

After their radio hit single turning to „Eisbaer“, they come to their encore: „We all gonna die“. But before, the festival continues on Saturday with names like Colour Haze and Oh Hiroshima.
