Ridin Hi (Music Video 2025)
Johnny Indigo
Americana Stoner Blues Rock
A man in a long, black coat held a monologue on the true American way in „Another 48 Hrs.“ Like the nature of the big plains, the Western style got eternalized in cartoons and movies, and the music didn’t fade in all the decades.
With all the love for the overseas history, Mathias Kollos took on the name Johnny Indigo. After years of experience in bands like Great Red Silence or The Boys You Know, working with musicians like Paul Plut, Pænda and Shimmy Two Times and his own production company Stranger Sounds, he follows the music of his heart, presenting the very first single of the upcoming album „American Daydreams“.
The beginning of „Ridin Hi“ brings up guitar standards like Steffen Molderings’ „Sliding Blues“. Then the cool riff and important beat hit in, that build the fundament of this massive Blues Rocker. Before the chorus, the short transition almost takes one’s breath, when everything comes back in with the title’s words, a big melody and claps as accents.
Now the cards are on the (poker) table, alea iacta est. No matter if The Black Keys or Blues Saraceno are godparents, the feeling gets transported accurately. And Johnny Indigo not only delivers the soundtrack, but the right video as well. Basically three layers have been incorporated.
Number one is the stock footage from the Library of Congress website, showing a lot of typical Western motifs, edited on point to the rhythm. The second is Johnny Indigo wearing a hat singing directly to the camera with a slight effect on it. The last and most memorable one are scenes on the countryside, shot on location.
While others might have done this in front of a green screen, Johnny Indigo is actually flying into the frame hanging on a crane with a poncho, boots and guitar. And just like this, he made the American way his own, with even more aces up his sleeve.
