Electrifying music and colors at the royal palace!
Kraftwerk – Schönbrunn Palace
Schönbrunn Palace, Austria 20240706
There was an appointed time for a date, a date that was long awaited for many. This time was marking the beginning of an evening with the legendary band Kraftwerk. Still, although many were more than on time (even arriving a bit too early), had to deal with quite a long queue to enter the palace through the main entrance’s gate. The queue was not kilometric, but the feelings of excitement were too overwhelming for some of the fans arriving at the place. When the starting time on your ticket says 20:30, you are expecting the concert to start exactly at 20:30, especially when there is no opening act. This was not the case for this concert.
But little we all knew, there was a reason why the concert would not start. And no, it was not the fans that were arriving right on time or a bit later. No, it was not because there were some technical issues. No, it did not start later because of any other specific reason but the light. Yes, the light coming from the long days of summer in Vienna which sometimes can last until around 22:00. In this case, instead of being a hardcore rule follower, Kraftwerk demonstrated their wisdom and patience by waiting until the sun was almost gone. Right when the darkest part of the twilight started, we had an amazing dusk with the beginning of the show with “Computerwelt”. Now, there is a reason why this concert was so amazing. First of all, there are not many bands that play at the Schönbrunn Palace, usually most of them are organized by the government of Austria. So, it was a very unique experience to see Kraftwerk play there. Second, Kraftwerk is known to be a pioneer in many aspects of the music industry but, as a matter of fact, they keep being innovative and creative. This time, they used several beamers to project all of their album’s artwork and cinematics on the façade of Schönbrunn Palace! This was the main reason for waiting until dusk and having a bit more darkness in the day!
They continued to play “Die Mensch-Maschine” and “Computer Liebe” from the album “Computer Liebe” and just followed into “The Man Machine“. All of them were accompanied by extraordinary videos and images of the artwork.
They followed with “Autobahn” and “Radioactivity“. We can tell that this was the first time for many of the fans to see such a thing. One of your favorite bands projecting extremely amazing visuals in a royal palace. I can assure you, my dear reader the whole experience was mesmerizing.
After this, there was a transition for the “Tour the France” which felt like they played a short version of the whole album. It was just wonderful. They followed up with “Spacelab” and “Die Roboter“. At this point they were getting ready to say goodbye after almost 2 hours of a magical experience.
You can find most of the videos projected on their official website.
Thank you, Kraftwerk!
Yeah I totally agree it was a cool concert and the projections on Schönbrunn is what took it to a next level for me
