A Summer A Week A Night

Mothers Of The Land, Monsters Of The Ordinary, Hidden By The Grapes

Arena Beisl Bierwoche Open Air, Arena Wien, Austria 20190726

After some open air concerts already, the Arena Beisl invites to the splendid Bierwoche 2019. One whole week, guests can enjoy special beers and great bands for a free donation and even grab a free poster or CD. This year, the billing brings up names like Fuck Sorry, Roadwolf, Psycho Toaster or The Röad Crew.

On Tuesday, the special beer is the Weitra Bräu, and the first band to play on the small stage on the left of the big stage (stageception) is Hidden By The Grapes from Styria. During their gig, they release that is exactly ten years since they released their very first record. Their diversified sound shifts from soft to screaming, from playing one chord to unexpected changes plus featuring a DÖF cover. At Wohnzimmer, they seem to be in good hands, and some are reminded of Mile Me Deaf.

The second band is Monsters Of The Ordinary, who play some very full and pressuring American style Stoner sound. They name Them Crooked Vultures and Clutch as their influences and also (early) Black Stone Cherry could be godparents. The Rickenbacker bass therefor does the rest. With their dynamic stage show they captivate their audience. In the end they play a “No One Knows My Sharona” cover featuring “I’m the devil I love Metal”.

Mothers Of The Land, last act of the night, is no dark horse to the local Rock scene either. They supported e.g. Red Fang and Elder or shared the stage with Sativa Root, with Brewtality at the beloved DasBACH or with Triptonus for a double feature at the Café Aera. And the Instrumental Psychedelic Stoner of the those “riff-smiths” simply is made for being enjoyed live. Their twin guitars rush ahead, washing one’s brain out. Just at some point they backpedal for a moment to realize they haven’t played anything of the record so far, what they catch up on immediately.
