This is quite a Line-Up
Kreator, Sepultura, Soilwork, Aborted
Presented by Mind Over Matter Music, Gasometer, Vienna, Austria, 2017-02-16
When four bands of this calibre are playing an event together, it has to start early. That is why we already arrive at the Gasometer at 6:00 pm, to be early enough for the first show.
It is Aborted, who open the evening. The sound is not perfect, and due to the time, the audience just started to grow, but that does not hold the Belgians from playing a furious show between their two skeletons, that are shining on the left and right side of the stage. During the gig of Soilwork the sound gets better, but singer Speed still states, that the audience seems sleepy. That is why he chooses a captain, to “lead the rest of the crowd into chaos.” This plan works out perfectly well, which he appreciates: “Well done my Captain, keep it going!”
The band coming up next does not need a Captain anymore: Sepultura are living legends. With their new record “Machine Messiah” in the luggage, their show becomes a blast. The new songs like “Phantom Self” and “Resistant Parasites” work greatly next to classics like “Choke”, “Ratamahatta” and of course “Roots Bloody Roots”. Especially their youngest member, drummer Eloy Casagrande plays with incredible energy, so the whole band seems young and powerful.
After the biggest Brazilian Thrash Metal band, the biggest German genre representatives enter the stage: Kreator. They also have a new album with them called “Gods of Violence”, whose songs like “Satan Is Real” or “Fallen Brother” receive great response. Unfortunately compared to their support, the band seems a bit tired, but make up for it with fire, smoke and garlands coming from the ceiling and also nice visuals on screen.
So in the end the crowd got fed with two great Thrash shows as well as two remarkable Death gigs that underlined what was clear before: This is quite a Line-Up!
