Inspired Creatures Of The Night
The Cure, The Twilight Sad
„Lost World Tour 2022“ presented by al-x promoter gmbh, Marx Halle Wien, Austria 20221023
The sky turns gray, as Mjam-riders demonstrate in the streets of Vienna. At the same time, the subway takes us to Schlachthausgasse, from where a dizzy way leads through ‚A Forest‘ to the Marx Halle containing the Globe Wien and next to the Media Quarter and Palace.
On Saturday, Danger Dan played at the Volkstheater and tonight Macy Gray and Porcupine Tree perform in the neighborhood. In the meantime, al-x (Iggy Pop amongst others) presents a tour in front of 8000 fans in the sold out venue, that happened like this several years ago already.
Already back then, critics were not satisfied with the bar situation and sound, as it is similar to the Knockdown Center. Another problem of the otherwise wonderful concert evening is, that The Twilight Sad start over fifteen minutes earlier. They present their atmospheric Shoegaze Post Punk Rock in dungarees, bringing the gray walls and hills of their Scottish home Kilsyth to Landstraße.
During the break, the noise of rain echoes between the columns. Then The Cure start their set of 2.5 hours, with Robert Smith all done up pacing up and down like Gaahl and singing greatly like at Nova Rock. They include some brand-new songs like the opening „Alone“ with the earth rolling on screen. „Pictures of You“ from “Disintegration” (1989) and the unexpected „Kyoto Song“ follow.
Everyone can find an own highlight, like „Lovesong“ or „Burn“ showing drummer Jason Cooper working on the video wall. A second wide angle camera is placed on bottom in the center, and another one shows the whole audience from back of the stage. „Want“ and „Shake Dog Shake“ stand out as well, but the biggest hits, The Cure save for the last block.
„Lullaby“, „Friday I’m in Love“, „Close to Me“, „Just Like Heaven“ and „Boys Don’t Cry“ are just some of them, and still there would be others missing like „One Hundred Years“ or „A Reflection“. But the extended tour program starting in Riga takes the Post Punk Dark Wave Gothic Rock legends further to Zagreb and more to inspire as many fans and bands like Vazum as possible, while some of the Viennese crowd head to Fledermaus.
