METAStadt Open Airs 2024 – Announcement
METAStadt Wien 20240717-29
There are several brick-built areas in the capital, serving cultural variety purposes: the Arena, the WUK, and – since 2019 – the METAStadt. Best to reach by train from other districts, you simply have to follow the tracks a few meters more by feet, to find the event location.
Apart from concerts, the premises are used e.g. for exhibitions like on Harry Potter or Formula 1 or to celebrate the Superbowl. Since the first edition featuring likes of Greta Van Fleet, many big names appeared on the stage on the yard like The Kooks, Alt-J or Sarah Connor. Usually, those Open Airs happened within one week, but this year, Arcadia Live and Barracuda Music together present an extended calendar.
It all will start in the middle of July with the Hip Hop Legends Cypress Hill and Crossover Rap Metal pioneers Clawfinger, regulars of festivals like Summer Breeze. Few days after, it continues with British Disco-Soul-Duo Jungle together with Indie Art-Pop of Giant Rooks, who toured with Temper Trap and others before plus Good Neighbours. On the following Wednesday, it’s gonna be time for chilled vibes by Khruangbin. Their support Parcels would be reason enough to go there for many. Plus as third act, Lukas Oscar is part of the package.
For Queens Of The Stone Age, it has been some time since their last appearance at Stadthalle. But now they return with a new record. Whereas Air just filled the Konzerthaus in February, they are back once more to play „Moon Safari“ with Berlioz and Leyya opening the evening. From Ambient Pop, we come to Ambient Techno with Paul Kalkbrenner as next highlight for lovers of Electronica.
Many call Iggy Pop ‚Godfather of Punk‘ and just as many describe Patti Smith as ‚Godmother of Punk‘. She will proclaim that the „People Have the Power“. As final of the series, Nu Metal heroes Korn will be the ones who „Did My Time“ like back at Nova Rock, supported by Spiritbox like on their upcoming North American tour with Gojira.
