Tash Sultana, Amistat
Arena Wien Open Air presented by FM4 Indiekiste, Austria 20230717
It has been only a year, since the last guest appearance of an Australian shooting star at the Arena presented by FM4 Indiekiste. Since then, the Q- and Helio Tower have been finished and complaints came in about the noise from the Open Airs. Nethertheless, here we go again.
While Sting heats up the Stadthalle, the air is burning up the terace already, as the fans fill the area in front of the stage. This year’s support is Amistat, who’s name makes think of the book and movie ‚Amistad‘. As influences they name likes of Simon & Garfunkel, Ben Howard or Kodaline. Actually they do remind of Open Hair acts like Loch Lomond, Diver or Yunger with songs based on guitar, keys and percussion and violin, changing instruments some times. They only need a small part of the stage and have played the city before and go on extended tour through Europe including Conrad Sohm, Posthof and Rockhouse.
To cool down, the securities enjoy an Eskimo ice cream, while the Bee Gees play, the crystal salt lamps are set and the carpet is vacuumed. Tash Sultana follows an extended tour schedule as well, but still has found time to return to Vienna, where the fan community feelingly is bigger and more enthusiastic every time. With several cameras installed, now even the visitors in the back can follow the happening on stage pretty closely, starting with „Mystik“. The set also includes „Pretty Lady“ and more catchy tunes when the band joins in like „New York“.
For Sultana’s wife’s birthday, the audience serenades her followed by thunderous applause. Again, the final highlights are „Notion“, „Jungle“ and the outstanding and powerful guitar track „Blackbird“. Dancing light-footed and still playing everything on point on the loop station with joy and coolness is what makes the concert special again. And after „Terra Firma“ and „MTV Unplugged“, now soon the „Sugar“ EP will arrive.
