This Is A Call To All My Past Resignations
Foo Fighters, Idles, Fat Dog
Take Cover Tour 2026 presented by Barracuda / Mind Over Matter Music at Ernst-Happel-Stadium Vienna, Austria 20260703
July has arrived and the weather couldn’t get any better for an open air stadium concert. So early in the afternoon, the first fans meet in front of Ernst-Happel-Stadion. The official merchandise including a city shirt and a poster by @maarten.donders (The Riven) was open the day before already. And soon enough, the gates open for the show.
Opener today is Fat Dog from the UK. With saxophone and strings, they play a bumping mix of electronic Ska and Industrial Techno Punk. The loud beats and screams make the early guests want to move. Just like it should be, that not only the sun does the warm-up, but the music as well.
Idles, the Post Punk band from Bristol is the reason for tonight’s visit already for many. They are as energetic and hard in their stance as always. A well-balanced setlist from their albums (none from the last one), playing only bangers, that they are known for. Yet, a lot of people from the crowd probably haven’t heard them before. But the fans, we found each other and enjoyed the moment in camaraderie. *
Since 1995, the Foo Fighters tour the world. Their „In Your Honor“ tour led them to Zenith in Munich in 2006, again in 2007, and 2011 they headlined Southside. Huge fans even travelled to Sziget, Hamburg or to the Taylor Hawkins tribute show in London to see them live.
After the passing of the iconic drummer, Ilan Rubin (NiN) took his place now. The set includes true classics like „Stacked Actors“ (played with three drummers in the 2000s) and younger hits like „These Days“. As frontman Dave Grohl collaborated with Lemmy on „Probot“ and mentioned ‚I love Motörhead‘ during a live performance of „For All The Cows“, they incorporate „Ace Of Spades“.
„Marigold“, „Window“ and „Big Me“ mark the middle of the three hours show. During a medley, they introduce themselves, including ‚the wildest Punk in the band‘ Pat Smear (Germs). More highlights are „Monkey Wrench“, „Breakout“, „Aurora“, „The Teacher“ and especially „Exhausted“ from the debut towards the final „Everlong“.
Of course, it would be great to change or add some songs like „Hey Johnny Park“ or „Enough Space“, which they played in 2025. But from twelve studio albums it is hard to pick, and so the crowd can leave happily after an amazing Foo Fighters live set.
