Leonardo da Vinci draw the Vitruvian Man around 1490. In Flames based their „Clayman“ artwork on it in 2000. Now in 2026, the same applies to „People As Idiots And Idiots As Leaders“. 

Like in the animated short „Intolerance (I)“ by Phil Mulloy, the head is between the legs. The actual head on the shoulders is the one of a reptiloid. It holds several items: a gun, money, a smartphone and a golden spoon, while a satellite observes it. Apart from Reptilian Records (Chat Pile), the labels Bloodshed666 (Vomits), Grazil (Chorosia) and more have this new desolat album in their catalogue after „Get Sick And Let Me Watch You Die“. 

They open with a big Doom riff, converting to Sludge, (Post) Punk and related directions. Squeeking, the „Pig Race To The Apocalypse“ – with the instruments greatly setting this title to music. The album also contains several features with Jarboe (Swans, Neurosis), Michael Madsen (Mozo Mozo) and RBK (Rolltreppe). 

„No Depression When Dead“ stands out with another Helmet storm of riffs and crazy saxophone. Another personal highlight is „The Art Of Shit“, a heavy rocking banger with Late! flavor, before L7 or Ministry might come to one’s mind later on. „Humans Are Such Easy Prey“, the final title reminds of Mark Twain calling our species as „The Lowest Animal“ or David Attenborough telling „We are a plague on the Earth“.  

Soundwise, „People As Idiots And Idiots As Leaders“ is not desolat’s darkest album overall. Still the style doesn’t lose heaviness at all, as it is bumping like a(n animal’s) heart. So the blood circles, and the vinyl version comes in ‚oxblood‘ red with printed innersleeve. Mixed at Cosmix Studio and mastered by Dan Swanö (Bloodbath), the live presentation will be on 16th October 2026 at Venster99 together with Z.U.A.
