Kollektiv Kaorle Sommerfest at Pavillon 21 – Otto Wagner Areal, Austria 20260718
Up the Baumgartner Höhe in 14th district, the pavilions of the Otto Wagner Areal (OWA) lie beneath the Kirche am Steinhof (available as Lego on viennabricks.at). Many of the former hospital buildings now found a new meaning and are used for events. There is for example the Café Otto & Camillo. Or the VOLXkino. Or the Jugendstiltheater, hosting violin and piano concerts of pupils from courses by Eszter Haffner or Stephan Möller.
Setup
Or the Vive La Femme Festival. Or the performance of the ‚Clownsschule Darmstadt‘. Or finally, the Kollektiv Kaorle Sommerfest. This association has rented the Pavillon 21, up the hightest point of the OWA. For this special occasion, they have organized everything supporting a splendid summer day outside from noon to ten. So first thing that catches the eye is the pool noodle fence, reminding of the other pool noodle incident with Green Jellÿ.
Passing the entrance and after a glimpse from the balcony, the garden welcomes with cheap drinks and Syrian food. There is haircutting, a ‚kostnixladen‘, a pool and a water slide. Under big chestnut trees is the lovely stage, and constructions like tree houses accommodate the sound equipment and Radio Kaorle. So the celebration can start with a DJ set and a guided meditation. Just before the first live show, a brief heavy rain shower comes down.
Live
humming people are part of the collective and were on the billing of the last Waves festival alongside Filiah, DuoLia. and others. The duo Soso and Robert plays guitar, bass and synthies. After „Waiting Room“, they thank Michi Schatzmann on drums, who worked with likes of Ivery, Ansa Sauermann, Rian or Euroteuro, who will perform later this day. And all three of them sing on „Unexpected Consequences“, for which David Bosnjakovic (Amelie Tobien, Yasmo & Die Klangkantine) shot a video.
The whole garden is sitting and listening closely, as the finals „Disagree“ and „Sidewalk“ would motivate to dance. On 22nd October, there is another chance at Flucc, as humming people support Some Sprouts. At OWA, admission has already to be stopped, as the limit of a few hundreds for this event is reached. For those who were lucky enough to get in, the day continues with Vitamine Spa, Kira (the TWYKE), Taxi Lotta, Euroteuro and Frau Sammer.
