The Music That Should & Will Never Fade

Hidden By The Grapes, SeralOx, Bernhard Eder & The Nonsleepers, Binary Boy

Kurt Cobain Live Tribute zum 30. Todestag promoted by Retroparty Vienna & Rock Antenne Österreich, U4 Club Wien, Austria 20240405

Only one year ago, a ‚cold wind‘ dominated the very same evening. This year, the weather is just right to have a barbecue on a terrace. Meanwhile, a whole lotta bands are out: Bipolar Penguins, Angelus Apatrida, Small Souki & T.B.T.B., Spell, Hayley Reardon, Average and Ivery

With the U4, the Kurt Cobain Live Tribute has found a unique home thirty years after his death. Not only did current local bands like Amber Road or legends like Falco play here, also that Nirvana performed in the club in 1989 is common knowledge. Only seven years of existence and three regular records were enough, to cement their status of an icon, affecting generations.

Like at Roter Bogen and Coco last year, the line-up is a colorful selection with known interpreters like Sir Tralala. The audience seems to enjoy every single second, every song from every album. Like „On A Plain“ greatly covered by Binary Boy, one of many to sing with.

Bernhard Eder & The Nonsleepers were part of the billing the year before too. Prior this evening, they even released an EP consisting of four Nirvana tracks, including their version of „Come As You Are“ and „Polly“ and an underwater photograph as cover like on „Nevermind“.

SeralOx just released a new single and video too via ArGe-Musik. For the tribute show, they prepared a fine assortment from first album („About A Girl“) to last („Heart-Shaped Box“). Still it feels like their could be never enough Nirvana songs, so Hidden By The Grapes follow.

They visited the city e.g. at Bierwoche or Venster99 before. For „Lithium“, they get joined by Berni of I’m A Sloth. Another highlight is „Jesus Doesn’t Want Me for a Sunbeam“. But all things have to eventually come to an end, including this great tribute show. Yet the night continues at U4 with Addicted To Rock or optional at Chelsea.
